A former chairman of the Houston Museum District Association, Joel A. Bartsch draws on more than 15 years serving as the president and CEO of the Houston Museum of Natural Science. On the 6th of March, 2021, Joel Bartsch and his team participated in a world tour within the museum's wide-open spaces.
On March 6, 2021, the Houston Museum of Natural Science's Tour the World event was held at the Museum in Texas. Over 200 guests attended the event. To ensure attendees' safety, aggressive COVID-19 safety measures were taken, including temperature checks (using infrared thermometer guns) and distribution of hand sanitizers and face coverings on trays. In addition, bright red stickers were stamped all over the place to remind patrons to stay 6 feet apart.
Diners could locate their place cards easily at tables arranged with enough space throughout the Morian Hall of Paleontology to entertain the guests. Beginning with a well-enjoyed crab cake, the 3-course meal was served by City Kitchen.
HNMS President Joel Bartsch gave brief remarks. In his speech, he reminded the audience that HNMS has been operating as a non-profit corporation, thanks to the devoted efforts of many individuals in the corporation and partial funds received from the City through Houston Arts Alliance. Since its inception, HNMS has not received any state or federal funding and relies on support from donors. In response to his message, 2 million dollars was raised at the event. The funds will be incorporated into the Museum's general operating budget.
